Newborn photography shoots are incredibly special and I always get very excited by them. There is something so mesmerising about a newborn baby; the size, their expressions, their absolute innocence. I never photographed my children as newborns, far too distracted with feeding sleeping etc and its does sadden me that I don’t have many newborn photographs to look back on. My aim in a newborn shoot is to photograph those early sleepy curled up moments, the bonding between mother and child. Of course dad’s and siblings also play a big part in the shoot; early cuddles between a dad and his son/daughter are precious memories. As is too a sibling’s fascination with the new arrival. Best time for a shoot is between days 5 and 10, and this is when a baby is still curled up in that beautiful way that only newborns do. However with Elena, her mum decided she wanted a wait till Elena was a month old and in fact in made no difference, the shoot was a dream!
